Craig Carter was born Oct. 31, 1979 in Paducah, Ky., with the name Craig Allen Carter. His father wanted to name him Casper Carter, but his mother wouldn't have it. As a young boy, he listened to the Opry in a small bedroom with tinfoil around an old radio he had purchased from a yard sale. He saw live music when his father, a tire maker, took him to see a Hank Willams, Jr concert in a neighboring town. Craig was mesmerized with Hank's following and even more enlightened by his grandfather's records of Hank Williams's Sr. It wasn't long until the big-voiced child began singing for all of the neighborhood and anyone who would listen. Carter's first debut would be at the age of four belting out Deep Dark Grave at the local baptist church. The preacher responded with "Little Craig has brought Satan out of here with his soulful voice and God's children that would agree....say AMEN!". Craig stills demands the attention of the audience with his voice or his costume. Craig was exposed from an early age to all genresof music from his parents vast collection of eight tracks, vinyls, cassettes, to CDs.
At 14, his traditional country roots led him to Nashville, TN. With just an hour and half away, Carter always looked forward to a chance to visit his favorite getaway. After winning a local talent showcase in Nashville, Carter was invited by Porter Wagoner to sing at the amusement park of Music City...Opryland. Wagoner, informed little "Leather Lungs" as he called him to keep up the hard-work and make sure to finish school. Carter took those words to heart and finished his bachelors, masters, Rank 1, became a National Board Certified Teacher, and just finished his doctoral degree in education. However, that didn't falter Dr. Carter from singing and songwriting along the way. Carter used his singing and songwriting abilities in teaching for seven years and was named the Kentucky Science Teacher of the Year.
Carter certainly has a style and voice that is all his own. Carter refuses to conform and sound like any other individual in the entertainment industry. Currently, Carter has been songwriting and completing his upcoming album release produced by Bob Keeling, producer and player for the infamous Sun Records. Carter's album, Master of Disguise reflects songs written by Carter that reflect his honesty, sincerity, and gregarious personality.
